No doubt, OU’s Defense is definitely under the gun after this season’s sub-par performance as this NewsOk article suggests.  But, the other interesting item to look at is it’s defensive performance over the last couple of years.  Except for stong showing in 2009, OU’s defense has dropped dramatically in Total Defense and other important defensive statistics.  This may help reveal the unexplainable let-downs like losing to Texas tech at home this year that puzzles coaches, players, fans and the press.  Several people have tried to blame this largely on injuries, but honestly that is just part of the game.  Defensively even up to the Tech game they had limited injuries that culd possibly account for this level of drop-down.  Regardless, the coaches should have had the second teamers ready to step and play at a high-level.  It is simple…look at the stats in this article they do not lie.  They have a chance at a small amount of redemption this Friday in The Insight Bowl.  They need to focus, lose the excuses and play ball!
